Jean's path to Chinese medicine is unexpected and compelling. He spent more than 20 years working in anesthesiology and intensive care medicine, environments where the focus was on acute interventions and keeping people alive. That foundation gave him a deep respect for Western medicine and an equally clear-eyed view of its limitations. He regularly encountered patients whose suffering wasn't fully addressed by the tools available to him. That recognition sparked curiosity about what else was possible.
Jean Louis Begue, Licensed Acupuncturist: Jean is a knowledgeable, and experienced teacher, who has been practicing Acupuncture and Oriental Medicine since 1984. Jean brings his extensive experience and his pleasant and joyous approach to every consultation. A 1984 graduate of the New England School of Acupuncture, Jean began his studies in Acupuncture in India in 1981, and completed an advanced training in Beijing, China in 1993. He was in the first group of board certified Diplomates of Acupuncture in the US, and one of the first acupuncturists licensed in the state of Massachusetts. In addition to practicing in busy clinical settings for over 30 years, Jean is a co-founder of a publicly funded AIDS treatment center, in Gloucester MA. Jean is currently a Full Professor of Acupuncture and Oriental Medicine for AcuPractice Seminars, Acupuncturist/Director at Acupuncture and Health Center, in Beverly, MA, and Staff Acupuncturist; Complementary Care Center, Health Alliance Hospital, Burbank Campus, Fitchburg, MA.
He brings extensive experience in pain management, internal medicine, and the complex, chronic presentations that patients often feel haven't been addressed elsewhere. He is trained in herbal medicine, electroacupuncture, photobiomodulation, and facial rejuvenation, tools he draws on based on what each individual patient needs.
What sets Jean apart is his fluency in both worlds. Not many acupuncturists have spent years in the OR and ICU. He is genuinely comfortable speaking with Western medical providers, integrating care across disciplines, and helping patients navigate the intersection of conventional and traditional medicine. He believes patients deserve clear explanations and the opportunity to ask questions—something too often missing in medicine today.
